How SKaMPEr Came to Be
A mascot for the Super Kids Marathon was an idea hatched by Muriel Fahrion (original artist behind Classic Strawberry Shortcake and the first 6 Care Bears). She felt the kid’s special race deserved a mascot and she wanted to donate her time and talent to the Spirit of Survival. While she was considering what species might represent Medicine Park, OK , Lori Cummins (Marathon Organizer) suggested a Prairie Dog. Both agreed it was the perfect choice. Muriel sat down at the drawing board and used up an entire sketch pad before SKaMPEr was born. His name came later inspired by how the critters run.
